CAKE SALE!
in aid of the HAITI disaster fund
was held on
Friday 29 January, 2010

Thank you, thank you for your kindness and generosity. We have never, ever seen so many cakes in the front hall at Chandlings, lovingly baked and donated by you parents. We raised £670.00 for the disaster fund from the sale of cakes alone, and then............ the Chandlings Secondhand Uniform committee donated a further massive  £2,500.00 to add to the sum, making a grand total of £3,170.00 which we are able now to give to the Haiti disaster fund.

Cow Pat for Nakuru Charity

For the whole of this academic year Chandlings is engaged in raising money for an orphanage in East Nakuru, Kenya.  We are helping by raising money to provide three cows and a  Bio-Gas system which will utilize their cow pats to provide lighting, heating and cooking to give the orphans the milk they need and, of course, the fertilizer will also be used to grow crops- all in all, a saving of £160.00 per month which they struggle to find.

The children are raising funds by buying a ‘cow pat’ on which to sign their name and post into a ‘milk churn’ ,  (the idea of buying a cow pat undoubtedly appeals to our children!) They can follow the progress of their fundraising by checking out the ‘Cow Pat-ometer’, and they have been encouraged to think of a variety of different ways in which they can help.

J. Carey, aged just 10, came up with the idea of organising a small ‘family bike ride’ over the half term holiday. The team consisted of J Carey and nine other of his friends at Chandlings,  three big sisters, five mothers and five fathers who pedalled a total of 368 miles (16 miles each) along The Ridgeway and raised the grand total of £2,580.00. A great achievement inspired by the imagination of a ten year old boy.

Well done indeed!

Mrs Ashworth Jones congratulates the children, and thanks them for their huge contribution to the Nakuru Charity.
