Religious Education
At Chandlings we believe that RE can help promote an understanding and respect for religious beliefs and the various philosophies of life that are reflected in our multicultural society. Our main teaching starts with Christianity, but during the children’s time at Chandlings they will also learn about Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.
Within the Pre-Prep department children have the opportunity to discuss occasions that are special to them. They will learn about festivals and key religious figures through stories. They will also observe and handle religious artefacts and visit places of worship where possible.
In the Prep Department children learn about the main beliefs of the world religions. A variety of teaching methods are used, including group and paired discussion as well as individual and group research. A wide range of resources are used to support the teaching of RE including books, artefacts, posters, DVD’s and the internet. The knowledge and experience of people from a variety of faiths is drawn on wherever possible.
