Design Technology
Design Technology at Chandlings is taught through Food, Textiles and Resistant materials. The subject is taught throughout the school and the children have the opportunity to use a variety of materials, through project based activities from Reception to Year 6.

The emphasis is on learning through practical work, and enjoying the designing and making process whilst learning how to use a range of specialist equipment and materials and work both in teams and independently.
Food Technology is taught throughout the school, in a specially designed, well equipped room. The children enjoy making a variety of recipes, with the emphasis on using local and seasonal produce and in the summer term we make use of some of the produce grown by the gardening club in the school garden. All children in Years 3-6 bring their own ingredients to school and enjoy taking home the delicious results to share with their families.
Pre-Prep
For Pre-Prep children, Design Technology is mainly taught within the classroom, with the exception of Food where they are taught by a specialist Food teacher and enjoy making soups, bread, biscuits and cakes.
Prep
In Years 3-6 Design Technology is taught by specialist teachers for Textiles, Food and Resistant Materials in purpose built, well equipped rooms.
A creative approach to Textiles is enjoyed by all the children and there are many examples of the weaving, felt making, dyeing and silk paper making on display around the school.
Resistant Materials is taught from Years 3 - 6. The children use specialist equipment and materials to design and make a range of products which may include key fobs, jigsaws, clocks, mirrors and automaton. The pupils learn the principles of movement using levers, cams and followers to make a moving toy, and develop practical and problem solving skills to make their automaton.
